Dear residents,Last week, with the help of a fellow resident who rides our horse trails, my wife Kathy and I walked the horse trail that surrounds The Ridge golf course. It was a very helpful endeavor. As we walked the trail, it became quite clear to me that most of the trail runs through the woods and there’s no way a helicopter pilot is going to see riders on the trail in advance of flying over them, if at all. Indeed, even with no leaves on the trees, a helicopter pilot will not see riders in advance of flying over them.
I also saw that there are portions of the trail that are relatively narrow and have a steep drop off. If a horse spooks on those portions, the results to both the horse and the rider could be catastrophic.
I’ve spent many hours over the past few weeks reviewing all sorts of documents regarding The Ridge, to determine whether we may have a legal basis to stop the helistop. In the course of doing that, I started what seems like peeling an onion. Each layer I peeled lead to another layer.
I’ve attached an eight page summary of this “onion,” as well as two documents referenced in the summary. This summary, I believe, shows how we got to this point with respect to The Ridge, and asks you to think about what direction East Amwell should take going forward.
I plan on discuss this matter at this Wednesday’s Planning Board meeting. You should try to attend. I likely will also discuss it at this Thursday’s Township Committee meeting. In the meantime, as always, if you have any questions, feel free to email or call me.
